Baking and writing

I’m not much of a baker yet I became one while writing my first novel, Dolls Behaving Badly.

Maybe it was because my main character following the recipes of her late Polish grandmother (whose ghost often visits her in the book, leaving hilarious yet heartwarming advice). Or maybe something about the writing process caused me to hunger, to crave and seek out sweets.

Whatever the case, I baked muffins and breads, cookies and coffeecakes. They didn’t always turn out as expected, but no matter. It was the process I sought, the mixing sugar with margarine, the additional of vanilla extract or cinnamon for an extra spark.

Read more about this in my guest post at Manic Readers.  And then go bake something: Cookies or cake or, my favorite, biscuits fresh from the oven.

I’m heading to the kitchen now. Hope to meet you there.

Heads up: Dolls was spotted under the Emerging Authors sign in the Anchorage Target, one of my very favorite stores (Oh, I’m dreaming in red circles!). I think this means I’ve hit the big-time now, no?

Also, just for the heck of it, a blurry pic of Wednesday’s sunset from the Turnagain Arm Trail outside Anchorage. So damned pretty.
