Wordless Wednesday: Seriously spring, and moose

It’s spring! In Alaska! Everything wet and grey and mushy, but still, so much muted beauty. Plus a moose or two, you know, just to keep things interesting.

Here’s a few scenes from our afternoon walk along the Coastal Trail with the dog we co-parent, Seriously.

    1. It’s funny. We see moose so often that it’s kind of like, “Oh, there’s another moose.” And then suddenly it hit sus. Wow, a moose! This big, wild animal right in front of us! (We keep our distance though. I’ve been charged four times and two of those times I’ve had to climb a tree to get away, lol.) Cheers and thanks for visiting. P.S.     1. Most of the times the moose are mellow, especially this time of the year. You have to be careful around cows with calves (they are very protective) and bulls during rutting season. Two years ago I got between a horny bull and the cow he had his eye on and oh my! He almost ran me over in his lust to get his gal. Cheers and thanks for stopping by.

    1. Come up and visit, Christy! You will all love it, especially in the summer. The mountains are divine, and the long summer twilight is like nothing else. P.S. We likewise love Portland, especially Forest Park, the weekend downtown market and the dollar taco stand. I ate five tacos in one sitting the last time I was there, lol.     1. Seriously is very polite and cautious around moose, thank god. My last dog used to chase them until one kicked her in the head. Luckily it was a gentle please-get-away-from-me kick and not a fierce I’m-going-to-smash-the-hell-out-of-you-kick and my dog, while shaken, was fine. It totally cured her of chasing moose in the future, though.
      P.S. Being chased by a moose is scary! They are faster than they look. My favorite moose story is one that happened years ago. Someone had been feeding a neighborhood moose (which is totally illegal but still, stupid people, you know) and when it nudged at a woman and she didn’t give it any food, it got mad and bit her in the butt. It ended up in the newspaper, too. Imagine being the woman in the newspaper article who was bitten on the butt by a moose, lol.

        That’s good that your previous dog wasn’t hurt – and a good lesson learned! I can picture her passing on her wisdom to other dogs – “Only took me one kick in the head to learn not to chase those moose!”

  9. Beautiful dog, I love these photos! Oh my goodness, we just took our first trip to Alaska in early March! It was a dream of mine to go to Alaska during Iditarod & this year we finally made it. What an awesome trip! Alaska is a stunning place, & being there during the Iditarod was amazing! We just loved it.

    1. Cathy! So happy that you finally made it to Alaska. And got to see the Iditarod! Isn’t it the coolest thing to watch those dogs run? I love their spirit and enthusiasm.
